Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
